ABOUT US

Our purpose is to help people become solid followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that a solid follower is involved in certain things and marked by certain qualities

A solid follower of Jesus Christ is involved in the following areas:
(from Matthew 22:34-39 and Matthew 28:16-20)

  • Showing God s love through service
    (ministry)
  • Offering praise and worship to God
    (worship)
  • Loving the lost to Christ
    (evangelism)
  • being Interconnected to the Solid Rock family and to the body of Christ
    (fellowship)
  • Drawing closer to Christ
    (discipleship)

The five marks of a solid follower of Jesus Christ:
(from Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT)

  • Inner Strength
  • Obedience
  • Growth
  • Understanding the message of the Bible
  • Experiencing God

Using these as guidelines, we seek to provide opportunities and environments where any person, of any age, at any point on their spiritual journey, can grow closer to Jesus.

What can I expect on Sunday Mornings?

    • A non-threatening environment
    • Very casual dress
    • Not to be embarrassed
    • People of all ages (many under 30)
    • To hear excellent music focused on God
    • To hear a challenging, relevant message from the Bible
    • Sunday School opportunities for all ages
    • Great child care
    • To be done in an hour! (Sunday school starts at 10:15)

Who is the pastor?

Jim Souza is the pastor of Solid Rock. Jim is married to Keri and they have four children: Emily, Derrick, Tori Elizabeth and their newborn daughter Allicen.

Jim has been pastor here for several years, first serving a church in upstate New York. He did his graduate work at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY.

He was raised in Seekonk, MA and is a die-hard Red Sox and Patriot fan.

What is Free Methodist?

We are part of a larger church family called “The Free Methodist Church . We have hundreds of thousands of members across the world.

You probably have heard of the (United) Methodist church. We are a smaller, different denomination. We separated from them in 1860 over the following issues:

    • We wanted freedom for slaves.
    • We wanted freedom in worship
    • We wanted free pews .
(There was a tradition at the time where people could rent pews . Thus the rich would get all the best seats and the poor were not welcome.)
    • We felt like the Methodist church at the time was moving away from the message of the bible.

Today the United Methodist Church has churches covering the spectrum of belief. Some are very liberal. Some are conservative. The Free Methodist Church is unified in its belief that the Bible is the authoritative word of the living God. They are all conservative in doctrine.

In this part of Pennsylvania, the Free Methodist Church has churches in downtown Allentown, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg.
